Help, I'm Melting!

I don't think I'll need the solar oven to roast potatoes today!

I'm freezing here ;). It's in the upper 50's, overcast and rainy. Brr! I wouldn't trade for your hot weather, but it sure would be nice to meet somewhere in the middle :).

OMG! you poor thing! Deepest sympathies.I';m reveling in the 50 degree rainy weather we're having right now. Great knitting weather!

Yikes! I think your brown thumb has more to do with the withering weather you have down there than a lack of gardening skill.

OMG! And I thought the 90's was hot, hot, hot... Maybe you can just roast those potatoes right on the sidewalk?? Stay in the shade, Chile or you might melt!

Bleh! We had weather like that a couple years ago - weeks in a row. Tough. Stay cool.

I'm with Diana. Yesterday, I found myself complaining as we hiked in the high 80's. When the temperatures get into the hundreds, I hide in the dark basement and cry.

I'm such a baby.

Wow! I didn't think anyone had it worse that we did (we've been in the mid to high 90's). It's only June...

I'm freezing here - had to pull out jeans and socks that I thought were away for the season - but it was 101 here last week so I'm not going to complain - I'd rather have it too cool - I don't think I could cope with temps that high! Hang in there...

Wowsa, that's hot. We are actually experiencing some mild weather here in the Midwest, along with a brief, but much needed repreive from the rain.

I bet this is good suntea making weather though!

It's 10 am and the current temperature is already 95 degrees! Yesterday's high was 106. Our swamp cooler could barely keep the house modestly comfortable.

Potatoes are now out in the solar oven. I'll try to get a reading on the temperature inside the oven at midday. All you folks with chickens are welcome to come fry an egg on my patio bricks.

But it's a dry heat.... I hate hot weather. It's going to be 87 here today and that's wayyyy hot for June in these parts. Last week we were gearing up for snow. Sometimes I think Mother Earth is going through Menopause.

We're only at 88 degrees so far today (high is supposed to be 98) but we have about 60% humidity which makes the temp feel MUCH hotter. Humidity is definitely a bummer. I can't walk to the mailbox without sweating!

Yikes. Definitely don't miss the 100+ days in Geyserville. So sorry, Chile - stay cool! How's the pooch taking the heat?!

Chile said...

Yeah, thank goodness it's a dry heat. Riiight. Once the thermometer is over 100, it's freakin' miserable, dry or humid!

Angel is dealing with the heat by shifting her nap spot to the kitchen tile floor rather than in front of the French door. Maybe she's not so dumb after all.

She is not happy about the lack of afternoon walks. The asphalt is just too darned hot to take her out.

Yikes! Mid 70 degree temps for your lows?!?! Those are our high temperatures around here these days! Sending you some cooling vibes ~~~~~~~~~~

I hope you don't have humidity with that heat. I've been in Palm Springs when it was 112 and they put ice cubes in the pool to cool it down but that's a dry heat. Stay hydrated.

That's crazy hot! I was complaining about 90 this past week. Wow.

Do you have to use AC? If not, what are your tricks to stay cool?

Jennifer said...

Stay cool!

Poor puppy... she would burn her poor little paws. I've seen little booties that wouldn't be too hard to make that I've considered making for when we go to the lake (lots of hot sand, no shade)... might be an idea for her! (not that YOU want to go walk in 100 degree heat, either!).

Yikes that is warm... It makes me more thankful we haven't gotten that hot here... I hope it cools off for you soon... that is too hot...

Unfortunately, we don't have A/C. We have an evaporative cooler. This is a big box that sits on the roof and is lined with pads made of either aspen wood shavings or fiber. Water sits in the bottom and is pumped up to the top where it drizzles down over the pads. Outside air is pulled through these wet pads, cooling it, and then pumped into the house.

This system can't cool beyond a certain amount below air temperature so on really hot days, the house stays in the low 80s. When the humidity starts climbing next month, it won't work worth a darn and I'll be sweating up a storm.

The best trick I've found for staying cool is getting my hair wet and turning on the ceiling fans. Going outside is awful, though, and biking is not even an option in this heat. Bah humbug!

It's revolting isn't it? I hate that sort of weather. Today it's 62.6 (I used my trusty Celsius to Fahrenheit online converter) here in Melbourne, a very sunny winter day. I didn't even wear my coat to the market at lunch time. It's a bit wierd.

Actually it was nice today so I rode the scooter to work.

Yowser - that's hot! Don't melt to bits, Chile!
