Here is the current list of things I need to remember to do:
- Sign closing papers for the out-of-town house we own that mother-in-law lives in. (She'll be staying in the house as a renter for now.) Done
- Tell City that we no longer own the house so they should put the sewer and garbage account in the new owners' name. Not done. New owners' responsibility.
- Tell insurance company that we no longer own the house so they should stop billing us for coverage. Can't do until next business day (Monday).
- Look around the semi-rural area where we are considering buying a home (for us and MIL) to make sure the area will work for us. Um, prospects look grim.
- Look for properties for sale in that area. I don't want to talk about it.
- Whine about the high the asking prices of the properties are and how little we'll be able to get. See above.
- Eat some chocolate to feel better. Done, but didn't work.
- Come home (to our rental house) and
keep up search for property.start all over from scratch....again. - Keep fingers crossed that our bank doesn't fail or that the proceeds from selling our house don't mysteriously disappear. Crossed so hard blood circulation is at risk.
- Keep fingers crossed that we can find and buy something before TSHTF, if it ever does. Ditto above.
- Keep Angel's butt pointed away from the fan. Did anybody get this joke anyway?
- Look for cheap used vehicle with really high gas mileage for use as a commuter. Probably irrelevent now.
- Declutter, declutter, declutter. Too tired and depressed to think about this. You want it? Come and get it. I'll be the one curled up in a little ball in the corner.
- Oh yeah, write the blog posts I keep promising. After all, we spent all freakin' day assembling our First Aid kits...but have no time left to write about it. Tomorrow. Or, the next day. Or, maybe the day after that.
While you are waiting for me to work my way through this long list, and write something more interesting than - "I'm going to write about interesting stuff...eventually. Really. Trust me. C'mon, you can trust me. Hey, I'm not a politician." - why don't you think about what skills you still need to learn to prepare for a peak oil world.
Lots of the bloggers listed in my sidebar talk about what they are doing to prepare for the future, as well as live a more sustainable and self-sufficient life now. What do you still need to do? Is there something on the back burner that needs to be moved onto high heat? Ponder on this, comment if you'd like, and I'll be back online to join the discussion in a few days.

Hi! *waves hands*
I am a compulsive list maker and use the sticky notes on the MacBook to do it. I make long term goals lists, daily lists of to do, lists of preps I need, lists of ideas, etc.
I have adult ADD and without the lists the days would be a bit chaotic so I'll keep the lists so that I actually do get something done every day, i.e. making lists! *LOL*
um...yeah, i have to do everything!!!! i am so poorly prepped for any sh*t hitting anything, let alone the fan!!!
I save envelopes just so I can make lists!
I need to take a First Aid or EMT class and build a rocket stove. I fear that I will never get around to it.. even with potentialdisaster looming....
I LOVE lists. I never use them after I make them, but I LOVE sitting and making them! Preferably on nice thick paper with a great pen. :)
Good luck with the house search... I remember doing that 4 years ago. You'll know it when you find it... everything else is just sort of Blah until you find the right house on the right land!
I make lists of lists, my mother did, too.
Do your legal stuff, like signing the papers first!
I hope you find the land and home of your dreams, Chile.
I need to get the stuff on my list I forgot yesterday--salt and catsup and some sweet potatoes.
cheers,
shamba
Congratulations on selling the house! ; ) And good luck finding a home... don't rush into anything - give yourself a lot of time! (But I don't need to tell you that.)
Sign closing papers- that means you've sold. Congrats and hope you find a good new home soon.
I don't know if I am compulsive about list making but I do make lists
Things to do today
1- read blogs
2-drink coffee, breakfast
3- make a list of things chile does
4-lunch
5- coffee
6-nap
7-Late coffee break
8-dinner
9-nap
10-go to bed
It'd eady to make light of list making, but honestly, IF i didn't do lists I would be like Taz in the bugs bunny cartoons- spinning everywhere getting nothing done
{My list is on the computer, for ease of item-rolling day to day when things don't get done hanging head}.
Right now, the major items for disaster-prep are all food-related, as my changing health has required adjusting my diet to the point that a lot of my old pantry staples/disaster supplies are no longer acceptable.
Don't make me think about the budget. I have no chocolate around!
(Great blog, BTW; found you through the prickly pear fruit leather recipe, and lost a bunch of time reading onward.)

A response to your list updates:
I'm assuming Angel is a 4-legged being (rememory is failing me right at the moment - sorry!) in which case sitting downwind can be hazardous when air quality is compromised.
A serious note: even though the new folks are responsible for putting the sewer & garbage in their name, you need to let the City know that YOU are no longer responsible for it because you no longer own the house.
Oh, no, Chili. What happened? You didn't find what you were looking for? Here in Maine, there's tons and tons for sale and prices are dropping all the time. Did I mention there are lobster shares?
There are a couple houses for sale on my street. Of course we'll probably get snow in two weeks.
Good luck with the house hunting!
How nice to know that others depend on lists, too.
Yes, our house sold. The bank put a hold on the money for a week so we don't have that yet. Why, oh why, did the Title Company use a plain ol' check? Grrr...
I'll be blogging soon about searching for a new place. It won't be quite as easy as we'd hoped. Not that any part of this process has really been easy...
