Don't Blog When Tired

Anyone reading yesterday's short post probably thought I was a big baby. After all, I was whining about driving 1,350 miles in 8 days.

Well, my sweetie pointed out the typo to me this morning.

It was 3,350 miles. Yes, over just eight days. Brutal, and I wasn't even the one driving.

In other updates, here are pictures of the dog damaged bumper - which we will have to pay to repair or replace. If the cost is less than our deductible, we'll just pay the rental car company. More and we'll make a claim against insurance and pay the deductible, which is about the same amount we saved by returning the car a week early.

Click on photos to enlarge to see the gory details.

Not all that bad, right?

Look closer and you'll see tooth marks.

The damn dogs were trying to eat the car!

No wonder the car companies are going to the dogs. They're tasty :)

LOL @Beany.

Ouch, Chile! I totally missed the post about the attack...how horrifying! I'm glad you and your husband made it away from the nasty beasts safely. What a pickle with the bumper, though.

Holy Crap! That's some amazing damage. Also doesn't say much for the quality of the car. Good luck dealing with all the hassle.

LOL @ Beany! Reminds me of the guy in tennesee whose porch collapsed- they're still counting the number of dogs under the porch!

That is crazy. Makes me wonder if the dogs were either trained to do it or had rabies.

Those are some crazy dogs!

Your sweetie is nicer than I am, I would likely have gunned it before the scratching/biting had started and there would have been some roadkill. Sounds like the owner probably wouldn't have even noticed. Dogs get weird when the pack gets big... I've seen it happen before. Did you have the address of the house? You should send a bill to them...

The dogs definitely were not rabid. I'm sure the owner is well aware they do this and may have even been in the house laughing his a$$ off. Unfortunately, we'd already passed the mailbox by the time it started so there's no way to know the address. Believe me, I'd be sending some nasty letters if I could!

I'll be calling the rental car adjustors this afternoon to see if they have an estimate yet.

Wow! I wouldn't have believed that dogs could even have done that kind of damage to a car.

I am sorry you didn't find suitable housing.

What kind of dog attacks a car and leaves it's bite marks on the bumper?? jeeeez!

I'm sorry about the car bumper trouble and the fact that you didn't find what you were looking for on your trip. You didn't go to collect dog teeth impressions!

You guys had a long trip and it must be a let down that you didn't find what you were looking for. that'd make anyone tired.

Glad you made it home safe though.

cheers,
shamba

WOW! That is quite something. Amazing what pack mentality will do for (or against) dogs!

Sorry see the damage.

You write: "This probably means not being right in town. How the heck would we deal with a neighbor like this?"

But this type of neighbor could move in or out anywhere at any time.
Unless you buy a huge piece of property off the road you will always have to deal with (weird) people.

If you live "too" far out then you risk logging and other resource extraction running roughshod over your neighborhood as there won't be enough people to put up a fight.

A conundrum, for sure.

Wow. Humans can be just awful - dogs don't normally try to eat cars... were they taught to go after people & cars? Yikes.

Still waiting for the estimate on the bumper repair.

I don't know if these dogs have been trained or encouraged to do this. They certainly haven't been discouraged!

You know, maybe it's not so funny, but I always thought it was. I knew an old guy that used to do raptor rehab. He was fed up with all the door-to-door insurance salesmen so he started putting the food for a couple of rescued baby owls in a briefcase. They learned to associate a briefcase with mealtime. You can see what's coming, right? When the salesmen showed up and got out of the car with their briefcases, a couple of owls would swoop down at them. Got rid of those pesky salesmen right quick!

The owl story is hilarious!

I think that I'm doing a bit of training too when I sprayed pepper spray on chasing dogs. Teaches them to quit chasing after bicyclists quick. The spray doesn't harm the dogs. But they don't forget about them either.
