We didn't find a new home. We're back from our trip already. I'll post about it when I'm rested up. 1,350 miles in 8 days in exhausting and tomorrow will be spent dealing with the dog-damaged bumper on the rental car so we can return it.
Update: Oops. That should have been 3,350 miles.

Hi Chile,
Sorry to hear you haven't yet found your new home. Good on you for not trying to make compromises that you won't be happy with in the future though. It can be so tempting to mentally massage things and convince yourself that although it doesn't meet your criteria for some glaring reason that you can still live with it.
Kind Regards
Belinda
The Nomad returns to the desert? Okay- I didn't want to hear thet you got eaten by rabid dogs!Welcome back!
Welcome back. I am sorry to hear it didn't work out.
Sorry things didn't work out. You can always come here :)
Awww, I'm been staying tuned. I'm sorry you didn't find a new home. That must be kind of a let down to put so much into your trip.
Ya, what Belinda said.
Why don't you move here with us? North Florida - lots of rural land - an hour to the coast, so you're relatively safe from hurricanes -- you can grow stuff year-round -- lots of water -- and lots of cultural and progressive, green stuff happening in our community: www.gogreenalternatives.com
bet you'd be happy here. the slogan for gainesville is "where nature and culture meet" -- and it's true!

Chile, I'm sorry to hear that this "neck of the woods" didn't work out...but if this wasn't it, I hope you quickly find the place you were meant to be...
I sure hope you noted the address/road where that happened - insurance should go and recover from the owners!!!
Btw, curious to know how you knew that the hotel rooms were full of "illegal" immigrants as opposed to just immigrants/migrant workers? ;)
I still plan to blog about the trip, just haven't had the time yet. (Been replacing a few items in our stocks since we'll be here longer now.)
Jennconspiracy - I figured someone would ask that. Having lived within 10 miles of the border for much of my life, and my sweetie too, you get a feel for which folks are hoofing in to the country. We've lived remotely and had them cross our land, met them trekking up the riverbed, seen them running to get in a van to pick them up, and seen Border Patrol driving in to arrest a group. We feel pretty confident in saying these guys were right off the bus.
'Course I've been wrong once or twice before. ;-)
When I moved to Ireland, I had to make several trips over here. I even came over to sign contracts on a place & found out 2 weeks before we were going to move in that the vendors refused to sign THEIR contract & took the house off the market...
I found this on the internet & put in an offer before seeing itrelina
