Not Exactly a Vacation

We're off soon to check out the area under consideration for relocation and to see if there are any affordable homes with enough space for Angel to run nap. I've paid the bills, emptied the produce drawers in the refrigerator, prepped food for the trip, told the house-sitter to eat as much chard as she wants, double-checked our packing list and reservations, and started cleaning out for the actual move.

What I didn't do, however, is write a bunch of blog posts ahead of time and schedule them to post while I'm gone. I am undecided as to whether I will blog on the road. It's likely, however, since ya'll know I just can't keep my mouth shut or my fingers still. But, since this is not exactly a vacation for us, my down time for putzing around on the computer will be limited.

I don't want to leave you bored and twiddling your thumbs so I have two suggestions. The first is to go check out the blogs listed in my sidebar, especially ones that you've never looked at. You might find some new writing that you just fall in love with.

The second suggestion is to read some of my old posts, especially if you are new here. I often write with the assumption that readers have read every single word I've ever published here (hardly an accurate assumption, I'm sure). Explore the archives, browse through the tags listed in the sidebar, and see if anything strikes your fancy. Let me know if you would like me to revisit some post or issue from the past. Are there subjects you would like me to explore more fully in the future?

See you on the road! (It is rather ironic that we will be spending Earth Day driving around all day, isn't it? We simply don't have the time to bike to our destination like some adventurous folks. Angel has also made it clear she would not willingly spend weeks riding in the trailer!)

I find it amusing that you're worried about your blog readers when you're getting ready to go... I tend to just go and say "oops! I was gone" when I get back. Have a good trip!

Chile, I'm new to your blog and trying to catch up a bit. I was reading through the suggestions people have made for places to move. If I had the opportunity, I would consider Earthaven in North Carolina, not far from Asheville. Earthaven is an eco-village and isn't a place where you can just buy a place and move in -- but from what I've seen about it on the internet, it looks as ideal as it gets. It is meant to be affordable to all and features a cast of mult-talented neighbors. It is mountains, but gorgeous, beautiful, sheltering mountains. Well worth checking out!

So how will I get my chile fix if you're not going to blog on the road?

Hope you find what you're looking for. Have fun. I think you've got enough carbon credits to cash them in for this trip :-D

Have fun and don't worry about li'l ol' us. We'll survive. Since I'm a relatively new reader I may have to catch up in your absence. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks, ya'll. I forgot how much road trips suck. Driving for endless hours, using nasty rest stop bathrooms, paying a fortune for gas... And the area we drove through today - a route we're familiar with - has loooong stretches with absolutely no radio stations. We didn't think to bring any CDs. We had to, gasp, talk to each other.

This is also Angel's first road trip of any length. We're not sure if she'll be willing to get back in the car tomorrow!

Gaia's Daughter - thanks for the recommendation but I suspect it's out of our price range.

Have fun! If you have a serious problem with Angel, you can give her either benadryl (1mg per lb of body weight) to sedate her OR give her ginger snaps/candied ginger to settle her tummy OR give her dramamine (I don't know the dosage) to sedate AND settle her tummy. The ginger snaps work great for us!

My pups always like to sleep on a sweatshirt of mine (preferably worn, so it smells like me) in the back seat. They've gotten used to long trips, and get excited about checking out each new rest stop!

Angel's been doing fine. The only thing she's not crazy about is the assist getting in and out of the car.
