Ruthless Clutter Cutting

I was making very slow progress on the email clutter in my Chile inbox so I got ruthless this morning. For all the scanning through old comments I had already done, I'd only found a single link and one recipe I wanted to keep. I decided to ditch most of the remaining comments without reading them. This saves me considerable time that can be put to much better use....like training my new dog.

All I have left now are personal emails from other bloggers that I need to sort through to toss or refile. Since my total, however, is now under 1,000, I don't feel quite as much urgency to work on it right now. I have plenty of other clutter to tackle so keep an eye on that box in the sidebar. It will likely change periodically.

You've inspired me to do this with my own email - really, it's amazing how a few email subscriptions and work email from students can fill up an inbox so very quickly. Unfortunately, I suspect I'm going to have to read all of mine first, but a nice clear inbox is well worth it.

Congratulations! I need to clear out my email inboxes as well. Also, I'm slowly sorting through letters from my mother, two best friends, high school English teacher, husband, and others trying to figure out which ones to keep. If a single paragraph or two is what is really interesting, I copy that information into my current or past journals (depending on space). It is time consuming but I'm down from two book boxes and a wine crate to one book box.

Jenn - I'm glad I inspired you! My goal was to get down to under 1,000 emails by the end of the month but I'm going to keep plugging away to try to clear it all out.

Ave - thanks. You are tackling more than I am. I haven't mentioned my personal email box yet; it's way overloaded as well. The other computer filing is also far behind, but ... one task at a time. Congratulations on paring down your letters. I like the idea of putting only the information you want into journals.

I have almost 18000 emails piled up. I am on too many yahoo groups. I just did a bit of deleting and I'm down to less than 16000. Maybe in a few days I'll have them all deleted. There are a few I need to save, but most can go.
