Yeah, right. My resolutions usually last until about 10 am, or maybe noon in a good year, on January 1st. But, I have to do this so bear with me.
I posted my health goals for the New Year here. Lofty, I know, but I have to at least pretend I'm gonna try.
My remaining goals are:
- Find a house/property/shack/yurt/something to live in that is not a total dump, preferably with enough yard for the rotten dogs to run around in, space to grow some tomatoes, and maybe a little corner for chickens just to torture the dogs.
- Educate myself. I have a bad habit of acquiring the books I need to read and then shelving them without reading them. Having them as a reference is great but I really need to read them cover to cover first. Expect more book reviews this coming year.
- Practice what I'm learning. It's not enough to learn something new; it has to be practiced to secure it into the memory. I have not once practiced the skills learned in the Red Cross 1st Aid class. I have to practice what I learn in the krav maga classes, too, to build muscle memory so that the skills are there should I ever need them. I can make many recipes from memory because I have made them so many times but I would have to look up the CPR rules for my dogs right now because I haven't reviewed that information in months.
- Lower my standard of living. More local and basic foods, more water conservation, less energy use, less driving and more biking/walking, and occasional no amenity weekends.
- Watch for opportunities to build community.
There. I've done it. How many do you think will make it past the first week in January?!

I wrote about my goals too last night. Except there are more fuzzy in a way filled with happy, fuzzy ideas.
My goals if you're too lazy to click over:
I want to continue doing the good things I started doing and less of the bad things. I want to be a little less scatterbrained, and be nicer, save more money especially to buy another bike to carry a surfboard, be more audacious, be a little less of a doormat, take another long bicycle trip (week long...maybe?), paint at least one painting, buy a guitar and make some music, love myself a little bit more by silencing the self-critic more often (this is my biggest challenge as I find it easier to love everyone else except myself), learn how to swim, learn how to say 'no' more often and maybe finally put up some goddamn curtains over the windows!
Also isn't the point to try, try, try again? Who cares if you fail, just pick up where you left off and start anew. Make your goals into a challenge (hint, hint).
Thought you'd enjoy this story.
I experienced my first earthquake today. The room started swaying and I thought, "that's weird, I didn't realize I felt dizzy." When I noticed the blinds swaying is when I realized what was happening and then hoped that all that beer I bottled and the sauce I canned would stay uncracked through and after the earthquake.
Very cool Chile. All of them have crossed my mind, lingered for a minute, then went away.
If I am going to try to do anything, it will be:
Get in better shape
Practice with the stuff I have bought
Were the dogs just a little bit on your nerves today? What did they do this time?
Beany - I like how you put your goals.
Hint, hint on a challenge? No, I think it's YOUR turn to host one!
Congrats on surviving your first earthquake. Did all your goods make it through unscathed?
nova - If I'm going to remember that I, at one point in time, thought these were goals I should strive for, I'm probably going to have to post them on the wall somewhere. Otherwise, they'll just slip away.
dogear6 - Angel has suddenly decided - in the last week - that she has to tear up the blinds every single time a cat goes by. We're getting tired of taping them back together.
I love goals! Good luck with finding a place to live... I know you've been working on that a while.
Great goals - I love how you want to do something rather than just "give up" something or buy something else...
I suppose the clock is ticking and I should get on mine too!
happy new year!
After reading this blog for a couple of years, I KNOW that you will do 2, 3, 4 and some of 5 over the whole course of the year. So, read my lips, er, read my typing,
You Can Be Too Hard on Yourself!
I haven't dealt with NYears plans yet except to keep going down my list of house improvements and doing more physical exercises moe often.
oh, yes, i got the new session contract for the CSA and I'm sending it in next week! I hope I'm not going to be too inundated with produce for the next 3 months. it will be interesting the see how that works out.
A Very Happy new Year to Everyone out there,
Peace, shamba
This post got me thinking, and here are my (tentative) goals:
1) Have a productive garden.
2) Start and maintain a blog (just signed up for one today).
3) Start a Montessori program with my son.
4) Stop caring so much what other people think.
5) Be out of debt by the end of the year! I'm so excited!
6) Eat healthier. The hubby is Type I diabetic and we do really well already but there's room for improvement. Less fat and sugar.
7) Sew more. I really love doing it so I should do it more.
I think that about covers it. Thanks for the brain exercise!
All my goods did survive. And Mr. Beany didn't notice the earthquake as he was busy running around like a madman. It was a 5.9 one too!
And I have an idea for a challenge.
Hausfrau - thanks. The right place has got to show up at some point.
Robbie - this year, I'm trying to approach the goals in a positive fashion. Let's hope it works. :)
Shamba - you're probably right although the first one is, in many ways, the one I feel is most important. Unfortunately, it is also the one that is not entirely within my control, too.
Hope your home improvements and exercise plans go well. I'm sure you'll enjoy the CSA!
Krista - I love your goals! Glad to see you've started your own blog finally, too.
Beany - whew! When will you be unveiling your challenge idea?
