When did this happen? Obviously I haven't been paying attention. The ability to have stand-along pages is one of the features I've envied on Wordpress blogs. For those of you who are readers but not bloggers, pages are simply stand-alone ... pages ... on the blog that have their own links in the sidebar or in tabs along the top of the blog's home page. I've wanted to have these for information that continues to accumulate, such as my recipes and solar cooking log. The only way I've been able to do that in the past is to write a post and then just keep editing it to update. Then I make a link to that post so it looks like a page.
Well, now I don't have to go through that to have special separate pages. Over time, I will create a number of new pages for this blog. For now, you'll notice there are new tabs across the top of the blog (under the header) for Home, My Recipes, and Solar Cooking Log. I think I found all the links in my other posts and updated them to these new pages, but please let me know if you find one I've missed.
Are there any other pages of information you would like me to create? I know the index of post topics in the sidebar can be unwieldy at times, so please let me know how I can help you find what you want to read. Some possibilities I can think of are moving the local resources to a page and putting an index to some of the how-to posts on their own page. Should some of the bigger categories, like food preservation, be organized into a page where I can group everything about dehydration separate from canning separate from pickling, etc.? Would the blog look better with the link lists all tucked away onto their own pages or would you be less likely to bother seeing what else is out there?
I need feedback from you. After all, this blog is for you as much as it is for me!

I have to say that my "Garden" page has been wonderfully helpful to me. Now, I can go back and check the log to see what I planted when, it's really wonderful. As you start your new garden at your new house, I bet you'll benefit from keeping a log of what you do in the garden, too.
Farmer's Daughter - I'll have to think about that. Since my sweetie is the one that actually does the gardening, it's sometimes difficult to get the information from him. He'll be keeping his own records that I could perhaps transcribe...or persuade him to keep a page updated here.
Having a Harvest page would perhaps be better for me. After all, it doesn't really matter what gets planted if it doesn't yield anything...
They just came out (and without a lot of fanfair) so you're not behind at all! I like them too, except I wish that you could have them automatically update. For example, if you add a 'gardening' tag to a post, that it could automatically be updated on your gardening page. Maybe they'll get to that eventually. :)
Thanks for the heads-up Chile! I will have to update my own site after I check out your new set-up.
Would it be unconscionably greedy of me to say -- "everything, Chile. We want it all ..." :)
Sonja - ooh, that would be nice. I'm so used to having to update the 'faux pages' I created, though, that it won't bother me. What's a pain now is looking for all the posts that linked to the faux pages...
Hausfrau - anytime. I'm amazed I picked up on something, anything, right now. LOL
Risa - uh, yes, it would be greedy of you. Two things to keep in mind in what to ask for: 1. There is a limit of 10 pages. 2. I'm gonna be just a wee bit busy for the next few months moving. And then busy for the next few years getting the doomstead set up. ;-)
Ooooh, I should ask for suggestions to name the new place!
Oh, it will be nice to have the recipes page still so easy to reach.
I think the HArvest Page is a nice feature to have. thanks for taking advantage of this new thing.
Lots of new things you'll be busy with in the next few months--Happy Things!
what kind of cooling at the new place? at least you'll have your own working ceiling fans!
peace, Shamba
Shamba - I haven't decided yet how O/C I'm going to be about recording harvest information. I know a lot of people weigh their harvests. Do I want to do that much work? Do I miss out on valuable information if I don't?
New place has A/C rather than swamp cooler. The newer A/C units are supposed to be pretty efficient, and since there's no water involved, it should save on the water bill, too. Yes, there are ceiling fans. And windows - hoping for cool breezes. ;-)
The very thing I've been waiting for and you brought it to me, lady! Thank you, so much. Now, I can do a few things and see how well I mess it up! Oh, thought of a name for you: Chile's Casa
What do you think?
And ditto on all the Farmer's Daughter said.
I did not know we had pages either- Usually I just put a link to my recipes from the search feature on the blog, then a fancy button then there you have it Maude. Oh well something new to screw my blog up with!
Chile's Casa has a nice sound to it, I like that. I was thinking of some name using the word Oasis, I can't come up with anything clevered than Chile's Oasis.
peace, shamba
Sharlene - ha! Thanks Blogger, not me. :)
Chile's Casa doesn't encompass the land. I want to convey a sense of the space as well as the actual house...
Rob - always more things to learn, huh?
Shamba - hm, Oasis has a nice ring...but perhaps conveys a sense of more water than we'll have.
Anyone ever seen the movie, "Cold Comfort Farm"? Maybe I'll live at Chile's Hot Acre.
Oo! Thanks for pointing this out Chile! I will be putting a garden page and maybe a citizen activism page on my blog when I get a chance. ra
I still send you appreciation each time I type the code for a link by memory which you posted about so long ago now. And now I can appreciate you for letting me know there are pages available. Thank you.
And I think it would be cool if you had a challenge page. There have been so many over the years. You could call it Chile's Challenges. It simple but catchy.
Thanks for the heads up.. I hadn't noticed that either and it was something I envied about wordpress too.
History indicates anything you put up will be of interest to me.
Best wishes for your move.
Kind Regards
Belinda
Pages are fun! I've just started pages on my blog recently and have some more to add. A page on Food Dehydration would be neat. I need to learn how to do that.
Another limit besides the 10 pages is page size, which I think is set the same as on Google Sites.
I'm moving some long narrative things into Pages and I had to break them up into sections, when one gets to the end of the Page there will be an "On to Part Two" and the rest carries on at Google Sites. Not a pretty arrangement, but usable.
Thanks so much for discovering this, Blogger has it pretty well hidden.
Theresa - good page choices!
Belinda - I'm tickled. "When Chile posts, people read..." C'mon, folks, stop with all the compliments or I'll get a swelled head!
Kale girl - that's what I'm here for, you know. ;-)
I was thinking about moving the challenges up there just to clean up the sidebar.
Callie - Yep. I want to dive in and do all kinds of stuff here. Unfortunately, I've got to deal with getting ready for the move so it's going to be quite slow.
Risa - ah, good to know.
The way I found it was entirely accidental. Sometimes on the dashboard page, Blogger has little messages about new stuff. It popped up there and took a couple seconds to register. Then I investigated. Lucky timing, I guess.
Funny. I just noticed the pages feature too. And I wondered whether it had been there all along and I was simply too stupid to notice it. Cause I'd envied the stand-alones on wordpress too. Since you mention it now, maybe it really is a new feature and I'm not that stupid. I'm mulling ideas for pages on my blog too.
Oh, wow. I totally missed that pages were finally available. I too have envied it being on Word Press.
I think all the cleaning information might be good for a page.
