Mental Overload

Sharon mentioned that I was "currently preoccupied with moving" in her recent post about a new challenge. Yeah, you could say that. I mean, how could I not be? It is consuming my life (and my brain) right now! For example, here is my "to do" list through early next week:

  • Pack.

  • Take big pile of laundry to laundromat (now that we finally have a vehicle again).

  • Buy new locks & mail box for the new place.

  • Pack.

  • Close on the new place.

  • Change the locks.

  • Pack.

  • Call to set up utilities, phone, & Internet.

  • Pay final rent & give notice for our current rental place.

  • Pack.

  • Get emissions test done on vehicle.

  • Go by DMV to pay annual registration & change address.

  • Pack.

  • Go by post office and put hold on mail coming in to new place until we get moved.

  • Install the mailbox if there's time.

I don't want to even think about how much more there is to do after finishing this list (like taxes, moving, change of address, etc.) Today was a long, difficult day and my brain is just fried.

Mmmm, fried brain anyone? Maybe with a plate of steamed chard on the side?

P.S. No need to say, "Here's hoping you have a smooth move." I know ya'll wish me the best. I'm just whining...

Well, Chile, you just had to do it; didn't you! You had to mention chard, may favoriot all time garden green. And, of course, fried brains. Now, come one, girl, if I'm not afraid of beef heart, do you think a little tiny thing like brains will slow me down?! Geez. Of course, as a vegetarian, you're going to have to find a very smart plant! So, just put that on your list! I so don't envy you...

And pack of course!!

Moving is such fun I don't ever want to go there again. I've done it 15 times so far although the first few times I was too young to really be much help. I've done it 3 times by myself and three times as a married family person and that is rather too many times especially as we renovated all the places we have been!

good luck

Sharlene - sorry... I love chard but couldn't claim it as my all-time favorite. I'm too fickle for that. One month, potatoes are my fave; the next, chile peppers. Whatever is currently available is often what I'll claim is my favorite! Now, if they'd only figure out how to grow chocolate vegetables. And no, "chocolate mint" does not count. ;-)

Viv - oh yeah, how did I forget to put "pack" on the list?! ;-)

We've moved a lot during our marriage so I've had a lot of practice. I fervently hope this is the last move and that we are happy with our new home.

Aww-w-w-w-w ... I've looked in Rombauer & Becker and Moosewood and Laurel and everywhere and can't find Chile Brains with Chard ... guess I will just have to wing it as usual ... :D

Risa - hehe. All my cooking requires winging it right now since I packed up the recipes and cookbooks!

In fact, I had an interesting discussion with another volunteer at the CSA this week after he sampled a salad I made from veggies on hand there plus a few supplies around for our cooking demos. He asked if I had just whipped it up and was surprised I had no recipe. It's how I often cook.

The salad? Bruised endive tossed salad. Contained endive that I bruised with my hands (like chefs do with kale), minced fennel, fennel leaves, a few peas, grated carrot & beet, orange & lemon juice, orange peel, canola oil, agave nectar, dill seed, and salt & pepper. It was tasty!

Moving! what a job and not one that I'd enjoy but if the goal of packing is good enough, then it's not so hard. You have the best goal of moving at all, a place you're going to turn into your home.

Speaking of chard, that's some of what I'm having for dinner.

peace,

Shamba

Shamba - thanks for the reminder. I have some chard from the CSA share, too. Used the sweet potatoes and snow peas in a soup for lunch, along with black beans from a while back.

I'm with you, my moving todo list is 3 pages long. we just closed on Friday, get the keys tuesday, and to top off the crazy, some lady backed into my car smashing the drivers side door . everyone is fine but really didn't need one more thing on my to do list. (:
we can do it!

Haus - oh no! Yeah, I feel the same way - please don't add to the list I already have.

Congratulations on closing, though. Good luck with your move. We're just sitting down with the calendar now to figure out exactly when we want to do the actual move once we close and get the keys...

Lists are a good thing to make. Hope they will make your life easier. I hate moving. Great time to get rid of stuff. Wish I had got rid of more instead of moving it up here.
