Is the Unpacking Really Almost Done?

I'm getting closer and closer to unpacking the very last box in my new house. Usually I unpack much faster than this, but anyone who's kept up with the blog since I moved back in early April knows there's been a fair amount of drama in my life this year.

Impatient to finish getting settled in, my plan was to finish organizing the storage area last week and spend this entire week setting up the office/exercise/guest room. Well, plans change according to the latest drama, so when my mother-in-law got some bad health news, we decided to go pick her up and have her stay with us a few days. Clearing the floor in the office/exercise/guest room became the top priority.

Amazingly, I did it. I thought it would take me a week to unpack the last few boxes in here and organize the closet but I tackled it in one day. Everything may not be in the place it will stay forever, but all of the boxes in this room are gone. Sure, there's a huge box of paperwork I need to sort through and file - since I have not filed anything in months - but that box is safely tucked away out of sight for now.

I still have to finish the storage area but that won't take but a couple of days at most. The only things I have left in boxes are the art and decor for the house. Now that almost all the rest of the house is settled, I can unpack those and find the best locations for them. It's hard to believe I'll soon be able to completely shift my attention to other things on the to-do list.

Oh, you're doing so much better than me!

We still have a garage full of boxes. That said, we're doing it with a 5 year old and a 3 year old, and most of the stuff is their outgrown clothes and toys, which we want to cull without them seeing. Tricky business.

I long to have a garage I can fit a car into!

Go you!

Far as I'm concerned - thats fast! It was five years before I got everything out of boxes and even now there are some repacked boxes waiting for a few more renovations to happen.

someday.....:)

Hope your MIL will be okay soon. Glad you're getting things done, regardless of the order you planned. Life turns on a dime, as we've been experiencing here. I'm harvesting loads of veggies from the garden (I'm only buying fresh fruit since we are eating mainly from the garden, yay!), but I don't have time for much else, with us now taking care of FIL. Eldercare is a full time job in and of itself. On the plus side, he's eating with us daily, and he is enjoying vegan, mostly McDougall inspired food. A little EVOO is the worst of it.

Shamba - I'm so ready to be done.

Daharja - ah, tricky stuff, that getting rid of the kids' things. Good luck!

Viv - I was just thinking today, "Maybe I should put all the linens that fit the spare air mattress in a box with the mattress so I can find the right size sheets easily when company comes." Then I realized that all those boxes have been broken down and I really don't want to put stuff back into boxes. I'll have to come up with something else. LOL

Katie - um, I've been paid to do that for people... :)

nomikins - we'll know more after her next doctor's appointment. Doesn't look real good, though. Sorry to hear you've moved from one caregiver situation right into another, but wish the best for you all.

Enjoy the wonderful garden goodies!

Captain Poolie - welcome! I don't think I've ever been called charming before. You must not have read many of my other posts yet. Haven't seen my darker side, or the sarcastic side, or the trying-too-hard-to-be-funny side... ;-)

Rob - That's "Goddess" to you, bub. I love your typos!

And, see my comment to Katie above re: helping others unpack. :)
