These are just a few pictures of independence.
Independence from using natural resources to make disposable products.
Independence from using clean water once and sending it off as wastewater.
Independence from using petroleum products to grow and transport food long distances.
Independence from using nonrenewable resources for cooking.
Independence from building more landfills and using petroleum to transport waste.
How are you declaring your independence today?

We have been given a little stick-built shed to tear down and have rebuilt our front porch into an enclosed mudroom. I bought four nice windows for it with divided lights from the recycling center, so the whole mudroom, which would have cost three or four thousand from a contractor, came to eighty dollars! Woohoo, independence!
I like where you are hanging out the laundry.
Independence is having my own piece of land to care for. We closed 9 days ago on 3 acres in the country. Although the government says I now own this land, I know I am only a caretaker.
I love this post, and it's the same here.
Independence is extracting ourselves from the money economy.
My independence comes from solar cooking, growing most of my food, and a lifetime of DIY work using the good parts of what others toss. (Made some fantastic 2'x 4' planters from wooden house siding the contractors were just going to take to a landfill. AND, it matched my house!)
I bought one of those handy clothes washers and just LOVE it! Thanks for the source info...

i really like the composting dog waste idea. brilliant!
you know if you didn't feed your dog(s) conventional dog food you wouldn't even have to compost it..ours eat all organic chicken and other various supplemental items and their poo just turns to white dust in the sun..(calcium from the bones mainly) breaks down no problem. i never pick up their poop anywhere.. ever. it;s great
cheers
It's good to hear others are on similar paths.
Spotty Dog Farm - we will eventually be switching our dogs to a different diet, but we do not yet have chickens. It will take time for us to get settled in here, especially as we don't get much done outside during the HOT summer. For now, the dogs get their good quality chicken-based dog food, which does unfortunately lead to stinky poop, but it is surprisingly very low-odor in the dog waste composter set-up.
