Strike That

Due to the latest developments, you may disregard one of the dilemmas posed in the previous post. It will not be possible to remain on this property and do what we moved here to do. While things might change a few years' hence, they also might not and then we'd be in an even worse predicament. We are going to have to cut our losses and get out, after dealing with the bureaucratic red tape.

So, the remaining dilemma is whether to stay in the area with the secure job and source of produce (through CSA), with the possibility of again dealing with similar bureaucratic hassles if we buy a place, or follow some other path with no financial security or guarantees of a better situation.

All I can say is: That F-ing sucks. It really does.

S***, and a few other choice words that indicate unpleasantness--I know them all but i won't post them all.

Your husband's job is no small thing these days. But you do know that, I know.

peace to you, shamba

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this sort of crap. CSA's around the country abound and I'm sure with your experience you could probably work the same type of deal you have now.

The job.... that's a biggie.

Sharon is looking for housemates, just a thought.

Having lived with regular paychecks and without, with is better... your decisions are based on a sense of strength rather than desperation... when there's nothing coming in, others make your decisions for you... {{{HUGS}}}

&%^%#$% I just thought you got settled!!

What can I say...I think there may be an answer to all that but I can't help you here much. You definitely have any amount of empathy :)

I was hoping things were going to work out for you, but only you can know if it's time to move on. I'm sorry it came to that.

You know, it's like that Kenny Rogers song ... you've got to know ... when to walk away and know when to run. Sounds like it's time to run, and while it may seem like a horrible prospect at the moment, I think you're lucky that you realized before you'd been there thirteen years (or even thirteen months) and invested irreplaceable time and money and energy into trying to develop that property into what you need/want it to be only to be thwarted at every turn.

Perhaps the issue is "the rush" to beat TEOTWAWKI. Perhaps it could come in the next 5 years. Perhaps not. My inclination is to advise you to stay put and make whatever affordable improvements you can on the home. Pay off debts (if any), save some money, and decide to revisit the moving issue in a couple of years. A lot can change in that time, but if it doesn't at least you have equity in your current home and some money saved in the bank. Then you would be in a stronger position to decide whether it's time to take a bath on selling the place (if that's the case) or not. I think the "rush" I'm detecting may be working against you in making this decision. And IF it so happens that TEOTWAWKI happens within the next couple of years well...I'm guessing restrictions on property use will go the way of the Dodo and you may get to use it after all.

Thanks, all. Not likely to be any big decisions for a bit now while we deal with the aftermath of my mother-in-law's broken hip.
