OK, ya'll know my policy on ads here. I don't host ads on the site. I don't accept free products in return for reviews. I don't post comments that link to commercial websites. I don't make you pay to read what I write or even ask for donations.
At times, however, I have linked to commercial websites if I've tried something on my own initiative and have found I liked the product and the company.
I've told you about Harmony House and their really good quality dehydrated food.
When, as part of our preparedness, I bought a rocket stove, I posted pictures and a review...and told you where I bought it.
I've raved about my Xtracycle and electric assist kit.
I've recommended books for you to read, including one that I edited. (By the way, I also edited two more of Nova's books which are now available. We didn't talk about whether I'd get a bonus if they sell lots of copies, but check them out anyway if you like post-apocalyptic neo Western survivalist fiction: Gardener Summer (Kindle only) & American Apocalypse III.)
I ordered a Tulsi solar oven last year and shared with you how impressed I was with the good price and good service I received from Earth Easy. They offered to give you, my readers, a discount and I passed that information along.
Well, last week, the boss man at Sun Ovens left me a comment offering to give you, my readers, a discount for Christmas. I'm sorry to say it took me a week to get around to deciding that yes, letting you know about this was within the acceptable scope of my blog policies since I have owned a Sun Oven myself for well over a decade and have posted frequently about using it. (See my two-year log of cooking with it!) To the best of my knowledge, I am receiving nothing personally from Sun Ovens in exchange for posting this information, except the hope that a few more people might be inspired to dive into their own solar cooking adventures.
FINALLY.... THE DISCOUNT OFFER
So, here's the deal. He's already offering a pretty nice Christmas package for a Global Sun Oven with a bunch of accessories and shipping thrown in for free. If you order this by December 30, 2010, and use the discount code: Chile Chews, you'll save an additional $25. How's that for a Christmas present? Just by reading my blog, you can save yourself twenty-five smackeroos on that solar oven you've been lusting after. Just remember to use the discount code.
And one last thing. Do me a favor. If you order an oven, leave me a comment to let me know. I'm trying to do good in the world but I don't always get the follow-up feedback to know if I've actually made a difference. For instance, after all the work I put into making food, planning, and putting on two solar cooking demos at the CSA, I didn't get any feedback later to know if anyone (out of 500 members) actually decided to buy a solar oven as a result. If you do get a solar oven, I also want to hear if you actually use it, too!

You go, girl. Spread the news. He's a great guy. Let's get these into the American kitchens/yards...
Yeah, I saw they are carrying your book, Sharlene. Nice going!
I love my SunOven! When an ice storm knocked out our power last winter (for 2 wks!), I cooked in my SunOven, as well as on our wood-burning stove. If the sun is shining, even in winter, that thing'll heat up enough to cook. New to this blog, I will definitely be checking out your SunOven posts. thx
oh, my, this is a very good deal indeed! All those pots and accessories with a discounted price!
If I didn't already have a Sun oven I'd get one with this price and goodies to go with it.
chile, it seems to me I bought my Global sun oven with a discount reference from your website a couple of years ago.
Go Solar Oven cooks!
peace, shamba
Chile- There is no shame in promoting a product that you believe in and that will help the rest of the population as well. I would love a Tulsi Oven, maybe santy claws will give me one!
Chili, ditto to the above remarks - if you have used something & love it, tell us about it! :)
I'm seriously tempted by the offer! However, I already have a SunOven (I think in part due to you!); I'd like to get it for a friend, but right now my finances don't extend that far, especially if I'm not sure how often he'll use it. :(
It IS a great offer though! I'll pass it on to him. He's in tight financial straits too; perhaps we can split one for him. :)
Thanks Chili!
Dmarie - we haven't had any long expanses of time without electricity here, but in the hot summer months, the solar ovens are used almost daily to keep the house from heating up with cooking.
Check the side bar for post tags for solar ovens and solar cooking. I've written a LOT.
Shamba - tempting, indeed. It would be nice to have steel loaf pans, and they'd probably weigh less than my glass ones for future fifth wheel living. (See how I'm trying to justify this for myself?)
Hope you are still cooking lots with your sunoven!
Rob - you're right but then ya'll wouldn't have anything fun to read (about my angst...)
Did you write your letter to Santy Claws yet to get the Tulsi?
"Anonymous" - Splitting sounds like a possible way to get one for your friend. I'd really like to get a new one as my older one is showing some wear. Hard to justify, even at the good price, though when there are so many other needs on the list.

Hi Chili - I'm sorry: I pressed "send" before I signed my name.
I'm trying to think ahead to the new year. I've been working w/o salary since the end of April & it looks like at least May before salary starts again. :(
Fortunately (?) the job owes me money for expenses as well, so while I'm not getting paid for labour, some money is trickling in for reimbursement of past expenses.
Right now, I'm saving to renew my CSA (April), acquire a few more canning jars, and some wool socks (& if I have to, I can do w/o the socks). After that, saving for bulk staples order (beans, rice, oats, etc.)
I'm very blessed; I have a place to live, lots of woolies (& hot water bottles), my weekly CSA for produce & a good stock of staples, in fact I'm just about to make rice & beans. I can walk to work, and other than a few more spices ;) there isn't really much I * need * at this moment.
I'm not as far along in all areas as I'd like to be, but (especially in my circumstances) I think I'm much further ahead than most people I know.
The friend I'd like to give the SunOven to, I worry about. We talk a lot about saving for a rainy day, preparing for power failures or illness, stocking up, etc., but he's not really there yet. At least I've got him thinking about it! :)
His in JOY
(: Sunshine :)
