It supposedly takes 21 days to form a new habit. It seems to take me only a few days to fall out of a habit. The longer I wait between writing posts, the harder it gets. It's been a week since I posted and I don't think I've even responded to all the comments on the last one. (I'll get to that, I promise. Eventually...)
It's not that I've had a dearth of ideas; it's more that I haven't done anything with them. There's one lingering on the sidelines, waiting for me to actually write it up, but since it will take me a while to get just the right tone for it, I haven't done it yet. There are others that I've deemed too time-consuming to develop and yet others that would be of little interest to anyone besides myself.
Perhaps the problem is there is nothing particularly exciting, new, or note-worthy going on in my life right now. Sure, I could tell you about getting damn near every dish in the kitchen dirty yesterday - twice - while making bibimbap and then orange-cranberry muffins and chocolate chip bar cookies, but so what? All it means is I finally got motivated to actually do some cooking from scratch ... and had to wash a lot of dishes.
Or I could tell you about the wildlife we've seen lately, but without pictures (not possible with our little digital point 'n shoot), that's probably not terribly exciting for you to read. We enjoyed watching a vole poke its head out of a hole in the front yard yesterday and occasionally dart a few inches away to grab a leaf of dandelion, and Angel really had fun watching it. Not too much later, our resident Cooper's hawk swooped through the yard and perched in a mesquite for us to admire for a bit. And twice yesterday, a coyote came through and spent at least five minutes chowing down on mesquite beans under one of the older trees. Just for kicks, Polie thought he'd try a mesquite bean this morning, too. He found out they are very, very chewy. If I was nice, I'd buy some mesquite flour and make them dog biscuits again. The odds of me getting around to that are pretty slim, though.
Maybe I'll get around to taking the camera outside and photographing the garden beds we're preparing. Since we're going to be here a while, we decided to do a little planting. We're not in a big hurry since it is still getting below freezing regularly. (Thank goodness it's not below zero like the Northeast!)
So, there you go. A post all about what I'm not posting about.

Sounds like a case of winter ennui to me. We all go through it but you've also gone through some major disappointment this past year, too, and I wouldn't be surprised if that puts a lethargic 'ribbon' in your computer. Whatever and whenever you want to write, I'll be interested. Or, you can just stop by and say howdy... Remember, the computer works for you, not the other way around. [[[HUGS}}}
I'm in the same boat--a lot of writing ideas flitting around, and not a lot of time on the computer developing them.
I love reading about your wildlife observations, with or without pics, especially because we share some of the same species.
Glad you're back in the kitchen and hope the writing doldrums are short lived!
LOL! That so sounds like me! DH has been giving me crap lately because he said I don't post weekly like I used to...I gave him mostly the same reasons you just listed. In my case, though, it's also because going to college, homesteading, and working two jobs is KICKING MY @$$. Glad to know I'm not alone!
I happily wait for your updates, so don't feel pressure. It reminds me of when I lived in Tucson (picture rocks) and makes me homesick sometimes.
Hope you will just blog when you feel like it...about wildlife, food, whatever! (you could even recommend movies...you've got a great, quirky list on your profile) It's fun "visiting" with folks from across the world through their blogs, so thanks for letting us come along
Sharlene - I am not a slave to my computer. Sure, it gets lonely, but it can always go play with my cell phone...which I don't use much either. ;-)
Desert Lean-to - sometimes I feel like the wildlife stuff falls into the "you had to be there" category. I know that's true with the dogs' funny antics, plus everybody thinks their dog (or cat, or bird, or gecko, or whatever) is the cutest, funniest pet to ever have lived.
I'll be in the kitchen today but only to eat leftovers from last night's dinner out. haha
TFHS - if my DH tried to do that, he'd be in deep kimchi (and he doesn't like kimchi). It's MY blog and I write when and what I want. There are occasions when I ask him, "Do you think I should write about such-n-such?" and will listen to what he has to say, but he doesn't bug me about it. He's probably happier that I'm blogging less on weekends, at least, because it means I'm more available for us to go do fun stuff - like hiking, birding, walkin' the dogs, and such.
We drove through Picture Rocks a few weeks ago. It's probably far more built up than when you lived there!
Dmarie - darn, now I've got to go look at what movies I've got listed... be right back ... Yeah, those are still some of my favorites. :)
Would a movie post be too shallow?
No, a movie post would not be too shallow, of course, that would also depend on the movie. Some lovely scifi escapism? Alwayw works for me the old scifi thing.
peace, shamba
