Don't Want to Wear a Bike Helmet?
Then you sure as shit better not ride in Africa! This is what helmets are for, boys and girls: those unexpected ambushes and crashes. You can't predict when you might have an accident so be smart and wear your helmet every time you ride, whether it's through the wilds of Africa, the jungles of the city, and even just the usually quiet streets of your town.

Laws don't stop people from vehemently protesting that they have a fundamental right to not wear a helmet and get their head cracked open. Perhaps they are buckin' for a Darwin Award. ;-)
I'm with you Chile. Wearing a bike helmet definitely saved my brain when a car ran an intersection at the bottom of a hill that I was coming down with the right of way.
Brains are good. Intact inside the skull, even better!
When I was a child playing on the school grounds early in the morning a bicyclist was hit by a car and she was flung forward on the pavement. She was wearing her helmet when she hit the ground. They said that her head might have cracked open had she not worn her helmet, ever since that experience, I always make sure that I wear a helmet including my daughter, it just isn't worth the risk.
A pivotal moment for me was reading an article about amnesia in children years ago. Falls and accidents involving children riding bikes without a helmet accounted for an appalling percentage of the cases.
I don't care if they protest and choose not to wear their helmets -- I really don't. You can't fix stupid. BUT, what I do resent, more than anything else, is that after they suffer the damages of being stupid, they still expect you to take care of them... Sorry, I'll step down from the soapbox... Good post. Thanks for sharing.
Taking personal responsibility for actions ... and consequences ... is a thing of the past, I fear, Sharlene.
Yes, as another denizen of the state of Arizona where helmets are optional, I can tell you that we in the medical field call those who don't wear helmets "organ donors". For obvious reasons.
Well, see? One good thing to come of their actions...
I cracked my helmet when a driver, not using her turn signal, turned in front of me in traffic and I was thrown to the street. I was always a proponent of helmets before that, but the crack on my helmet could have easily been a crack on my skull and so I am even more of a proponent now. Helmets are easy to replace. Skulls....not so much.
That video is absolutely unbelievable too. Amazing that his friend was behind him with a camera at that moment to capture it all. I am so glad he had a helmet on.
Thanks for promoting this.
Wow. I'm glad you were wearing a helmet! My sweetie used to be quite tied in to the biking community and heard his fair share of horror stories along with seeing some mangled helmets. We never ride without.
